New technology can be mighty expensive; but as it gets older, it becomes affordable for the common people. Let us take the Blu-Ray technology, specifically the drive. When it first came out in the market middle of year 2006, a player costs at least $700.00. On top of that, you need a movie in Blu-ray format and a surround-sound system in order to maximize the total movie experience. During the first year, there was no visible boom in Blu-ray users because, aside from the equipment costs, not all movies were released in Blu-ray format. And the rental fee? It was far more than the DVDs.
Three years later, the Blu-ray technology is widely marketed and used by movie-loving people. The cost of drives plummet to 300 bucks a pop for the cheapest model. More movies have been released using both formats – DVD and Blu-ray.
Let us take it a notch higher – hooking your entertainment system to the (wireless) Internet via your Blu-ray drive! Sounds cool, isn’t it?
Right now, we are using a Panasonic Blu-ray that has an enabled VieraCast program in it. We can, basically, rent a movie using Amazon.Com with just a press of our remote control button. My husband uses it in viewing funny Youtube videos. Now, listening to music via Pandora. With Pandora, you can create and customize your own digital radio station. All you need to do is - type the name of the artist or song you like, and then click “Create Station”. Very easy indeed! It is cool that, they added more features even after we got the drive a year ago.
Well, friends – I hope that, what I share right now opens up your mind in maximizing your Blu-ray player’s features. Most of it is free, anyway. Unleash the techie side of you.
