Being a mother to a knowledge-hungry child, I always find ways to challenge my daughter’s intellect. This is to make sure that, she is not bored. Actually, it is just recently that I realized this after reading a website regarding academically exceptional children. This is one of the expert’s suggestions that I take seriously. It is also very timely that, the little mushroom got an invitation to the The Belin-Blank Exceptional Talent Search (BESTS), established by the University of Iowa in consortium with Stetson University in Florida. Invitation is extended to students in the gifted program or have scored on or above 95th percentile on any subject area on the FCAT and other standardized tests. Indeed, I am one proud mother. Below is the front of the invitation:

I have to admit – I am very particular with the educational progress of my little mushroom. With the cost of college education in the US, who would not be? Right now, I am not in a situation wherein I can pay for a pre-paid college plan. It is pretty expensive, if you ask me. Fortunately, the little mushroom is smart. So joining programs like BESTS (or HATS of Stetson University) is one step closer to an academic scholarship. Also, there are websites out there that specialized in finding the right scholarships and student grants for certain groups, even for left handed students. I am really surprised of the many grants that there is in this country. It is just a matter of seeking for it, and qualifies for it too (of course). Worst comes to worst – I can always look for financial aid information should the need arise.
