Due to unresolved issues and different viewpoints, the contract between two important players in the healthcare industry – Walgreens and Express Scripts – was not renewed effective January 1, 2012. Express Scripts removed Walgreens from its network of retail pharmacies.

Our household is deeply saddened by this news. We are one of the millions of people benefiting from Walgreens being affiliated with Express Scripts. Though we buy prescription medication only once or twice a year, this abrupt change will surely affect the convenience of getting it. Walgreens is the most accessible and the nearest pharmacy from our home. In fact, we only not buy medicines from them, but as well as some grocery products. With their 24/7 and drive-thru service, the company stays true to its mission – a pharmacy and a convenience store rolled into one place. As for Express Scripts, it was not our choice. Our health insurance has partnered with them. It is the same thing as saying – we have no choice, but to suck it up.

We are glad that Walgreens is doing something to continue its good services to its clients. The company has started a program called Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens . For $10.00 a year, our household can avail of the discounted price on both branded and generic medications.
