Frustrated and infuriated – this is what I feel this very moment. After accessing, my health insurance online account, I found out that a certain medical claim was not approved by the insurance company. It had something to do with a medical service – just a regular annual exam – done last April 14, 2012 for the little mushroom. According to the insurance company, the medical procedure code used by the provider’s biller is inappropriate for the patient’s age. True enough, the biller stated “age 12-17” in the claim. As you know, my little mushroom is only 10 years old. What I do not get is – this info should be readily available to the clinic’s staff. The birthdate is a required info. Hopefully, this issue will be resolved as soon as possible. The last time that it happened to us, we ended up paying 500 bucks out-of-pocket (for what should have been $150.00 only) because the biller in Flagler Hospital – Palm Coast submitted an incorrect code to the insurance company. After months of rejecting the bill, we just decided to pay it, before they would forward it to a collection agency, which as you know has a negative effect on the credit score.

A medical biller/coder has a huge responsibility in a medical office or establishment. Any negligence may result to a financial indebtedness of their clients. I know, human error is inevitable, but it can be costly. So before clicking the submit button, please double or triple check the facts and info of the claim.

Just like the past Mother’s Days, my little mushroom did not fail me. When I get up from bed at around noontime, a surprised breakfast awaited me in our dinette area. I was really touched and asked her (again) – Are you really my daughter? You are sooo sweet to be my daughter. She just laughed and gave me a big hug and a kiss. What a great way to start the day and the week. Amidst the report of soaring cost of raising a child, I still love being a mom! My zest towards motherhood never falters, just like the many mothers out there.

I finally received the package from Design Glassware by Mont-Bleu! I was getting frustrated there for while until I realized that, the package shipped all the way from Europe, particularly from Czech Republic.

Do you know why I am so anxious? Well, this is my first time to see a glass nail file and a Swarovski-adorned tweezer. When I got the message that I was chosen to be part of the company’s give-away program, I was thinking – really? a tweezer with an embedded jewel and a glass nail file? Too ornate for my taste! Anyway, my opinion turned to 180-degree when I saw it myself. It is not bad at all. It is great gift idea for the girly girls. The craftsmanship is superb. Well, it is hand-crafted so it should be expected to be of good quality and of course, it is from Europe. This continent is known to produce good quality products. You can buy a glass nail file at their website. Also, the company sells to wholesalers and retailers of glass nail files.

Anyway, I want to give away one set of glass nail file, a tweezer and a set of stud earrings to one lucky follower of my blog. All three items are decorated with Swarovski elements. This is open to anyone around the world. No shipping (via flat-rate USPS), handling or customs cost. All you need to do is “Like” this entry and my blog’s Facebook page. Both tasks should be done to generate an entry. I am aiming to have a thousand subscribers in the next two month. The winner will be chosen on May 19, 2012, 11:00PM EST.

Being a mom to a tween has its own challenges. This is the phase wherein a child is torn between being a kid and being a teen-ager. No wonder, the little mushroom and I are not “connecting” in some ways. Suddenly, I become the old-school and the cheapo mom. Not that there is something wrong with that, but it makes me laugh and wants me to sport a cane.

Last night was one funny night. The little mushroom with her desire to get some curls attempted to have one by using a round roller brush while her hair was wet from the shower. A few moments later, she came to me with a brush stuck in her hair. For some reason, the hair was twirled around and it could not be detangled. After an hour of trying to fix it, we decided to just cut her hair. Thankfully, it’s the front part of her hair. Fast forward – she ended up with long bangs!

The thought of having a monetary debt gives me insecurities and uncertainties. Indeed, it is a temporary aid in times of financial difficulties. Actually, I am describing what I used to feel when I was still residing in the Philippines, wherein bank credits are not readily available to the masses. Qualification only goes to people who are gainfully employed or who have other proven means of income. Also, it is a taboo to have a debt, or worst multiple debts. It is something that people frowned upon.

In the US, we feel more at ease. It is cool to have credits, as long as it is used and paid responsibly. It is inevitable not to have one. It is needed for us to be part of the “system”. Everyone, if not most, is using credit in one way or another. For some, even if they have the money, they will still opt to acquire something using the credit system just so a history is recorded. For college (or graduate school) students, loans are available at a minimal interest through reliable and prominent financial institutions.

With the leniency in getting credits, it sometimes does more bad that good. Some people forget the primary rule in budgeting – spend only what you can afford. Also, life is truly uncertain. We may be earning more or enough to sustain our lifestyle today, but the next day, it can dwindle to less to none. The thing is – everything is tied up to our credit history. A bad history, which our credit score is based, can mean hardship in getting financial assistance in the future. On top of that, if we do not keep track of our credit report diligently, it can also affect our score. When we are at a point that our credit score is awfully low, it is advisable to hire a company dedicated to repairing credits. However, it is important to get the best legal credit repair company in the industry. Remember – the information that pertains to our credit is confidential and can be susceptible to identity theft if not handled with care. Also, it should be personalized, and not computerized.

Think, before we swipe!

If you are in the market for a new job, you may notice that most of the vacancies posted in job boards are that of medical and health related. This industry is proven to be recession-proof. People get old. People get sick. People spend money to feel better. For people who can not take the sight of guts and blood, it is very frustrating especially if you are already in a non-medical field for so long. Also, changing career can costs a lot of money. If you have a child or children to take care of, a change in the daily schedule can be difficult.

For people who earned a 4-year bachelor degree in business or any liberal arts undergraduate courses, a shift towards law careers is a great option, provided that money is not an issue. In a country where humanitarian rights and legalities are strongly observed and preserved, there are a lot of opportunities for lawyers. Everybody is suing somebody. Okay, that is an exaggeration. But I know, you get my point. Aside from that, it is a very lucrative career.

If I were a lawyer, I prefer working for a corporate law firm. I like the idea that, it is still something to do with business, which I am already in. Also, it is fulfilling to help the economy, in some ways, by ensuring the proper operation of a business entity in accordance with the law.

It was eerie to see a double-yolked egg when I was cooking breakfast today. According to my Filipino supertitious belief, it can mean an impending bad luck to a family. I hope not…..

Per scientific explanation, it means that there is a rapid ovulation wherein one yolk is “lost” and is joined by the next yolk. This does not however create a twin chicks. Most likely, it will not lead to a successful hatch since the egg white, which is the food supply for the embyo, is not enough to sustain both yolks.

In almost six years of being married to the knight, I can count the times that I cook for his breakfast. Today is probably the 3rd time I prepared one for him. You must be thinking how uncaring wife I am. Well, there is a reason for that. The knight does not eat breakfast. Though I prepared a typical breakfast food, a 3-tiered pancake and an orange juice, he ate it around 1:00PM, and this is already early! Even with no breakfast, he usually eats his lunch after 2:00PM. According to him, he only eats whenever he is hungry. This explains his lean figure of 175 lbs at 6’2 in height. I envy him. He is very disciplined when it comes to food. He does not easily get tempted to eat whatever is laid on the table. Also, he is a strong believer in – everything in moderation. In fact, he did not eat the entire plate of pancake. He said, two pieces of it is already fine. Even if I should be the one watching my diet, I ended up eating the left-over, with his permission of course. This also explains on why I keep on gaining weight. Sigh.
